That time when you think you are being productive and getting stuff done and then you realize you are completely locked out of your storage unit and you totally failed in your productivity. Welcome to the world of trying to do too much stuff at once.

The life of a creative entrepreneur maybe?

Nonetheless, sometimes you need to flex the creativity muscle.  I enjoy making the occasional vlog…or not so occasional one.  It is a very inexpensive way to just practice with your gear, editing, cinematography, storytelling, etc.  It is like those big time filmmakers like Michael Bay, Ridley Scott, David Fincher, etc. that worked in commercials before becoming house hold names with blockbuster hits.

Granted, shooting commercials, takes a lot more work and planning than a vlog, but the practice is the same.  Keep making content and if you try to improve on your last project then you will pointed in an upward trajectory that results in getting better.

If you seek to improve, you'll only get better.

This time around I had a small task of returning some of my gear to the business storage unit.  What made this one easier for me was that I had one single goal.  This is a technique that I use in my screenwriting all the time.  With one goal it is easier to create cohesive opposition for the character that prevents them in achieving that goal.  It is what I refer to as conflict and what I believe is essentials to crafting interesting and engaging stories.

While some of what appeared in the vlog posted below was crafted specifically to create a more interesting story, other parts were spontaneous and completely unplanned.  This comes back to practicing, when these unplanned moments happen, you are able to quickly identify them and then know how to capitalize on them for your project.

Whether it is shooting a vlog, commercial, or film, the practice you put in now will help you to quickly adjust be ready when the unexpected hits you.

"Improvisation with zero planning is chaos, improvisation with extensive planning is creative genius."

I don’t want to leave you hanging when it comes to practicing in order to improve your filmmaking.  Below are a few eBooks and Documents that are available in my shop that will help you in your extensive planning and practice phase of your filmmaking.
